Jenny Barron is the Executive Producer of Special Projects & 5 Investigates for Boston’s most-watched source for news, WCVB-TV. She leads a team of reporters and producers responsible for delivering high-impact investigative, medical and consumer content for the Boston television market and on WCVB’s digital platforms.
As the medical unit’s team leader, Jenny has overseen exclusive coverage of the first and second patients to receive pig kidney transplants in Boston, taken deep dives into rare diseases such as lissencephaly and stiff heart syndrome, illuminated the science behind the new weight loss drug craze and shared powerful stories of patients overcoming adversity.
In her role on the investigative team, Jenny has overseen stories exposing the ongoing toll of the opioid crisis, the dangers of compounded weight loss drugs and the continuing impact of a shortage of mental health care in Massachusetts.
Jenny has been with WCVB for nearly 20 years, previously serving as the Executive Producer of the station’s morning newscast, the EyeOpener. She’s also a driving force behind big event and breaking news coverage.
Jenny graduated from American University with a BA in both Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. Prior to joining WCVB, Jenny was part of news teams in South Carolina and Connecticut.
